In the hallway (All Asians!!!)
The Competition was on the 20th of April and it was just crazy! I had four building competitions (all that our team did…) because nobody wanted to do them so I just did them. Anyways my competitions were:
- Optics: I still did Optics with Camden White, a senior at our school. We placed 15th I think. Anyways the competition was pretty funny. When we came into the room and there were ALL Asians instead of one other American (I guess...) and they all had these apertures to measure how to get the laser from one side to the other with guiding it around the barriers. The supervisor was supposed to have three barriers and don’t tell us where they are until we start our four minutes of time figuring it out. And he just came up and was like: “All of you come around that desk please! I will tell you the rules. You have to get this laser from this side to the opposite side! And I put the barrier RIGHT here (and he placed it into the middle)!” And everybody was looking like: Naaah, I don’t think this is what he’s supposed to do! And then this stupid boy asked: “Don’t you have to have three barriers?” And Camden said: “Don’t complain!!!” Anyways, the supervisor looked it up, he didn’t have two more barriers and we did it without them and plenty of time to think about what we would be doing. Still we were like 7 cm off. The boy who wanted to have more barriers was only 0.9 cm off… Genius!
Our Gravity Vehicle with the ramp.
- Gravity Vehicle: That was just bad! We forgot to have a needle for our car so it didn’t even count and all the hard work was practically for nothing… At least we got points for attendance and Cindy and I ended up place 19 I think.
- Thermodynamics: Another really bad competition! We had to build another box that keeps heat and then do a test. It was bad! We hardly knew anything and our box didn’t work out either… Cindy and I made place 20 I believe.

How our tower was supposed to look like (forgot to take a picture, this is just our design)
- Towers: This is a new competition I did with Bethany. It actually would’ve been really easy if we would have had more time. But since we didn’t have enough time we just build any tower. The goals of this tower were that it can is light, strong but steady. We made place 17. I couldn't even be there because I had so many competitions that we had to send Christian and Elena to do it for us (They just had to stand there but anyways). And I burned myself so badly with the hot glue that I still have the wound today, three weeks after haha.
Jason's Guitar.
My Xylophone.
- Sounds Of Music: My favorite competition! Haha, indeed this WAS awesome. I did it with Jason. We had to build two instruments that are in the right pitch and be able to play to entire songs and answer questions. Jason and I built a xylophone out of pipes and a guitar. Then we practiced the given song “St Anthony Chorale” and our chosen song “The Bad Necessities”. It was really funny! All these times cracking up! I practiced playing the xylophone (Jason played the guitar) in the hallway before our competition and there were boys coming downstairs to tell me it sound pretty good hahaha. It was funny! Although it was a lot of work I enjoyed doing this competition! We placed 11th (I think) which actually was the second best placement of our team!
So all in all although we lost badly (our school placed 22nd of 23) it was a great day and I had lots of fun! The best was probably the food though. Jason and I ran over the whole campus to get good food and get back at time. And by the way: The campus was huge! It was Western Kentucky University (WKU). It was hilarious!
